本講座は2006年4月にJohnson&Johnson 社の寄附にて以下の目的で設立された：
- 眼光学の根本的な教育を行い、眼表面疾患が視機能に及ぼす影響に対する 診療、疾患管理能力を有する者の育成。
- 国際的に活動できる国内海外からの研究者の養成。
- 地域における眼表面疾患ならびにこれら疾患による視機能異常の発症機序や罹患率の把握を公衆衛生学的な見解も踏まえての研究の実施。
- 眼表面疾患診断技術向上に関与可能な新しい機械の開発の研究。
眼表面に起因する眼疾患が増加傾向にあり、本講座では、高加齢、環境因子、ドライアイ、コンタクトレンズ装用による涙液及び角結膜上皮の変化を伴う眼疾患は視機能に及ぼす影響についての研究を中心に行っている。本年度は特に喫煙が視機能と眼表面に及ぼす影響、また様々な眼疾患が実用視力に及ぼす影響について研究を行った。

The department was established by funds from Johnson&JohnsonVision Care Co in April 2006 with the following aims:
1) To carry out basic education on Visual Optics and to educate scientists about the management related to the effect of various ocular surface disorders on visual function
2) To train internationally active scientists from Japan and other countries
3) To carry out research with epidemiological perspectives on the prevalence of ocular surface diseases in the community and their effect on vision
4) To develop new devices with improved diagnostic ability for ocular surface disorders
The department is mainly conducting research about the implications of aging, environmental factors, dry eye and contact lens wear on ocular surface epithelium and visual function. The current year’s research focused on the influence of ocular surface disorders as well as smoking , as an environmental factor on the ocular surface epithelium, tear functions and functional visual acuity. |
