緑内障は、我が国における失明原因の上位にのぼります。最近の疫学調査によると、40歳以上人口の約4％が緑内障を患っています。よってわが国には約300万人の緑内障患者がおり、ほとんどがまだ治療されておりません。われわれ緑内障外来でのキーワードは「早期発見・早期治療」と「患者様の一生涯にわたる視機能保持」です。緑内障と初めて診断された患者様は、失明という不安に駆られることが多いのですが、それを取り除くよう心がけております。

Glaucoma is one of the main causes of blindness in Japan. According to a recent survey, 4% of Japanese people over 40 years of age are afflicted with glaucoma, that is, approximately 3 million people in Japan, the majority of whom are left untreated.
The keywords in our glaucoma clinic are “early detection and treatment” and “preservation of visual function throughout the patients’ life”. Patients diagnosed as glaucoma often experience anxiety that they may lose their eyesight. We make all possible efforts to support them both medically and psychologically.
